Lots of good thoughts expressed here.
A couple of things I would point out.
1. Fast out - It is always more important to come out of a turn faster than it is to go into a turn faster. It's basic statistics, we all know it but we all get jacked up and come flying in and have to get on the brakes. That's slow. It's fun... but slow. Basic statistics also says the fastest times out there will come from the guy who holds the pedal down the longest! If you back out of the throttle to get through a turn, that is slower than accelerating all the way through. Also, smooth transitions. Yanking the wheel on AWD upsets the suspension and encourages traction to break and rear end to come around.
2. Set up - Great points above on alignment, tire pressures and suspension adjustments. It is key to remember that you need to adjust everything to the way YOU drive the car. Some like it tighter and some looser. You need to experiment and that means ...seat time, seat time, seat time. Great specific car sites can give you a place to start on alignment or set up but it's got to fit your driving style.
I am amazed how many times I have seen it... it's true. You can learn to drive a slow car fast with raw driving talent and "the knack".... but with out practice and seat time, you can't drive a fast car fast. YOU have a fast car. It'll take some time but you'll surprise yourself how quick you can be if you keep driving every chance you can and tweaking the set up (especially the tire pressures... that's the contact patch where the rubber meets the road. Tire pressures are the fine tuners but if you do everything right on suspension and alignment and screw up the tire pressures, the power doesn't get to the ground where you need it.)
Nice machine BTW! Hope to see you run it at BMW event! _________________ Ted E. Bayer
