I would NOT recommend driving in this race to someone with zero or next to zero track experience.
Its been hashed out before, but I do want to reinforce a few things
1.) practice pit stops
2.) drive clean & penalty free
3.) reliability > * when it comes to the car _________________

one of our guys had never done track driving until the day before the first race, and only a handful of auto-x before that...and he is Asian
it may be CMP but as long as you have some experience dealing with a car at the limit and drive smart you should be fine...you may get a penalty, and you wont be fast but you will have a blast
the range of speeds you see in lemons from the really crappy cars, to the well prepared crappy cars means everyone is on their toes and expecting the worst and the pace at the start of the race is pretty slow compared to how fast everyone is running at the end
just RELAX! and drive the traffic and not the track, don't make that aggressive pass or sudden movements until you are confident _________________ 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon

The largest limiting factor in getting this idea off the ground that I can see would be funding, or at least acquiring capital (i.e. a car). There are plenty of ways to do this, one being a fundraiser. I am sure we have enough members to get something like this off the ground (as far as the work involved goes), but we just HAVE to provide something that a large part of the population, not just car guys/girls, will come to and take part in. Something that we can use to solicit parents wouldn't hurt either...
Or if you know ANYONE that may have a car that could be nursed back to life just to take part in this one race would be a big start. We have several people on here that have tools and are willing to help (including myself) if we can find such a vehicle.
Also, since everyone that helps out with this will probably not be actually driving I say drivers have to help in funding in some way. I know this sounds somewhat extreme but if we know about a race several months in advance I do not think it would be hard to save up like $50 to drive.
Soooooo, any other ideas? _________________

I don't think money is as big of a deal as we think. Obviously the car needs to be purchased, but we can't spend anymore than $500 on it in total (besides safety equipment). Which in the grand scheme of things isn't bad if we can find either a junker for free or something really cheap that can be risen from the dead with tools / fluids alone. And if Nick can get the Bosch guys to be interested, then that takes care of a lot of the funding problems. _________________ Club Secretary (2009-2010)

The Bosch guys through Nick sounds good but.. if they fund it, they will be driving part of the time and they own the car and say when and who and how.
The nicest thing about somebody else's money is ...it's not yours. The worst thing is the golden rule...he who has all the gold rules!
I think we'd be better off with our own car. Our labor..CSCC calls the shots. I already mentioned several possibilities including the RX7 with no engine or tranny used for Lemons last year (note :roll cage is already installed. That means we need an engine and a tranny...which we already have I think). If Steve wants too much or it's gone now, there are others out there and cage is not that bad expense wise if you have a sponsor who makes cages and can put his name on the side of the car. _________________ Ted E. Thats a very good point. Well I guess we just need to go about finding a car then. Somebody needs to get a hold of Steve to see if he still has that rx7 shell _________________ Club Secretary (2009-2010)
